Description of Meet Volunteer Positions

Meet Set UpList Item 1
Follows meet set up checklist to prepare for day's meet. Includes: setting up chairs needed for meet, installing and testing score equipment, laying down floor mats, pulling out bleachers, hanging signs, setting up awards, etc.

AnnouncerList Item 2
Operates the public address system. Announces events, participants in heats, event results and other pertinent information to keep everyone informed as directed by the Meet Referee and Meet Director.
Experience: Knowledge of swim meets preferred

AwardsList Item 3
Organizes ribbons, medals and/or trophies for distribution. At most meets, awards from the results generated by the computer operator.

BullpenList Item 4
Organizes younger swimmers into their heat and lane. Brings swimmers to pool deck and drops them off behind lanes.
Experience: None, one shadow shift will help.

Meet Clean Up
Assists in returning the facility to its pre-meet condition, take down any equipment needed to run the meet and lend support to concessions and hospitality area.

Concessions
Helps prepare, serve and sell food and beverages to spectators.
Experience: None

Hospitality
Arranges, sets up and maintains snacks and beverages for coaches and officials throughout the meet.
Experience: None

Meet Marshal
Maintains safety on deck and within the locker rooms according to proper procedure. Ensures only swimmers, coaches, officials, and meet volunteers are on deck. Marshals are an important element in the conduct of a safe and efficient meet. Assists in supervision and control of the warm-up sessions, maintain crowd control, deck access, proper competitor and spectator decorum and safe, courteous behavior in other areas of the venue such as locker rooms.
Experience: Knowledge of a swim meet preferred

Official
Positions (referee, starter, stroke & turn, and administrative official) must be certified.

Runner
Posts heat sheets prior to start of meet and delivers copy to Announcer, Timing and Officials. Picks up timer sheets and DQ slips and delivers them to swim office. Posts results and delivers a copy to awards. Requires continuous walking throughout the meet.

Timing System Operator
Operates the timing console (Colorado) that is used to record the swimmers’ times.
Experience: Prior experience needed

Timing System Operator Assistant
Assists the Timing Operator.
Experience: None.
Position is encouraged for those interested in training to become a timing operator

Timer
Starts and stops a watch and/or presses the button on a plunger to stop the time. Times will then be written on a sheet of paper. New timers will be paired with experienced timers. Attend a timers’ meeting 15-30 minutes before the start of the session. The head official will go over your duties and answer any questions you may have.

Head Timer
Supervises the timers. Responsible for assembling them, assigning them to lanes, distributing and collecting watches, pencils, and clipboards, assisting the Meet Official in conducting the timers meeting, and handling any timing isues.
Experience: Timed at 3 swim meets before signing up as Head Timer

Back Up Timer
Responsible for starting two additional stopwatches in case another Timer has a failed stopwatch.
Experience: Timed at 1 swim meet

50/50 Raffle Sales
Sells 50/50 Tickets to the crowd during the meet. Money raised from this fundraiser will go towards new touch pads for our competition pool.

Volunteer Coordinator
Responsible for checking in volunteers and providing any assistance to our volunteers through the meet. This position is also in charge of making sure that if there are "open" spots to recruit families to fill those spots.
Experience: Having tried each volunteer position and understanding how to do them.
