DCST Exterminates the River Rats

DCST Exterminates the River Rats

The Kishwaukee YMCA / DeKalb County Swim Team (DCST) won its first dual meet of the summer season by going on the road to defeat the Geneva River Rats by a score of 388 – 314 .  As a team, DCST was a little rusty with only 77 personal lifetime best times out of a total of 196 swims for an improvement rate of only 39%.

After each meet, the coaching staff picks two swimmers, one girl and one boy, as the “Big Dogs" of the meet. Big Dogs are not only selected on their performance in the meet, but the coaches also take into consideration the swimmer’s practice attendance, work ethic, team spirit and sportsmanship. For this meet, Julia Luo, age 11, and Quin Dukes, age 7, were selected as Big Dogs of the meet.

The following 26 swimmers had an excellent meet with at least two best individual times in the meet:  Anthony Biundo, Justin Buck, Krissy Cutsinger, Mason Dukes, Quin Dukes, Emelia Gonzales, Georgia Harrelson, Ethan Heinrich, Adyson Hull, Grace Johnson, Joe Luetkehans, Julia Luo, Caroline Mackey, Holden Mackey, Spencer Mackey, Abby Pardridge, Nate Robinson, Carson Rose, David Ruetten, Paul Ruetten, Nicole Skrzypek, Libby Swedberg, Colin Tazelaar-Kruger, Luke Veronda, Anna Westhoff, and Aleida Wilkins.

DCST’s first home meet of the season is next Tuesday (June 19) against McHenry.
